My mother's computer is sounding like a freight train when it runs. Its been like that for 1 year, it has not slowed down the computer. Son says it could be a fan, other people say the hardrive is going out. I was thinking of opening up the case and looking at it while its running. suggestions???

I wouldn't open it up while it's running, bad idea...If you gonna do that you may as well chew on the power cord for a while...

What kind of computer? E-machine? Compaq?

Best back-up the files frequently.

My hard drive sounded bad before it finally stopped.

Nothing wrong with opening the case. If it's under warranty, take it back because most warranty are voided if open the case. Good luck.......

Probably the fan(no big deal-cheap & easy fix), but may be the drive(Bad).

Beyond warranty issues, it's okay to open the case-just be careful not to bump it when it's powered up and don't do anything unless you know what you are doing(and unplug it before you do anything)

Power supply is going dead, OR most likely the Fan on the CPU is going dead.

I would take it into a repair shop and have them look at it.

Either way a fix should not cost more than 50.00
